Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akuffo-Addo has charged Ghanaians to stand against tribal politics in the country.
According to him such moves could derail the peace in the country.
Akufo-Addom’s comment comes on the back of a wave of bashing President John Mahama received for making some remarks deemed ethnocentric against the running mate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He said the NPP would not allow Dr. Bawumia to become its flagbearer because to him the NPP has always taken northerners for granted.
But addressing party faithful at a rally in Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo region on Friday, Akufo-Addo called on electorates to ignore such comments and work towards achieving victory for the NPP on December 7, 2016.
“It doesn’t matter where you come from – whether you are an Asante, Dagomba, northerner or whatever, we are all Ghanaians so let no one try to bring disunity amongst us by engaging in tribal politics. If the northerners come down here to engage in cocoa business, it helps all of us.”
“This is the kind of unity we want for this election. Let us stand for one united indivisible Ghana. That is the Ghana we are fighting for. That is the Ghana that will bring us progress and prosperity,” he added.
