As the election campaign gathers momentum, people claiming to have spiritual powers – traditional priests, prophets and pastors, are refusing to sit on the political sidelines and making bold predictions about the outcome.
The latest to foretell the winner of the polls is the chief priest of the powerful “Kwaku Firi Shrine” in Nwoase, in the Wenchi Municipality, Nana Kwaku Drobo II.
He has proclaimed that the presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, would come out victorious.
He, however, said the party needed to unite behind him to make this happen.
He made the public declaration when Nana Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy on him during his five-day campaign tour of the Brong-Ahafo to canvass for votes.
Nana Drobo warned that, “if the NPP fails to support the flagbearer to win the coming election, then the party would remain in the opposition for long time”.
He made a personal cash donation of GHȼ 3,000.00 to support the candidate’s campaign.
Nana Akufo-Addo pledged to work hard to build a country that “works for everybody” if voted to lead the nation.
He said his government would turn the economy around to create wealth and jobs – to end widespread economic suffering.
Accompanied by some leading members of the party including, Mr. Allan Kwadwo Kyeremateng, Members of Parliament (MPs), national and regional officers, he addressed separate rallies at Wenchi and Nchiraa, where he asked his supporters to overcome complacency.
He told them to work with unity to convince and win over more voters ahead of the polls.
Nana Akufo-Addo called for decency, tolerance and an issue-based campaign which will help especially, floating voters make the right judgement.
