The Chairman of the Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association of Ghana, Mr. Siaw Apadu has thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa AkufoAddo for scrapping taxes on imported used spare parts into the country.
According to him, they would have demonstrated massively against the government if such taxes had not been scrapped in accordance with a campaign promise.
Expressing excitement about the new development in an exclusive interview with mynewsgh.com, Mr. Siaw Ampadu said in a fortnight they will clad themselves in white and match to the flagstaff house to thank the President.
Giving a breakdown of how many taxes they pay at the port Mr. Siaw Ampadu said during ex-President Kufuor’s time they paid between GH¢2,500 and GH¢5,000 as import taxes but now it has increased to GH¢12,000 and GH¢ 20,000cedis.
Although excited, some spare parts dealers who seemed to be a bit confused whether it is going to be tax free at the ports or they will still have to pay some petty taxes called on the government to come out some clarification.
“We had complained to the previous government but it was not heeding to our cry. We did all we could but they failed us but I am happy the current government has listened to us and we will also show appreciation. We shall embark on a thank you demonstration”, he hinted
