South African President Jacob Zuma has sent a congratulatory message to the president elect of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo, pledging his commitment to work closely with Ghana “in pursuit of continental integration, peace and security.”
Mr. Zuma also commended the outgoing President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who “in a typically democratic fashion conceded defeat.”
This was contained in a statement issued by the South African High Commission in Ghana. Former South African President, Thabo Mbeki was in Ghana with the Commonwealth Observer Team for the election period.

On behalf of the Government and people of South Africa, H. E. President Jacob Zuma has congratulated Mr Nana Akufo-Addo on his election as President of the Republic of Ghana following the elections that were held on 7 December 2016.
President Zuma has committed himself to working closely with President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo in pursuit of Continental integration and peace and security.
President Zuma has also commended outgoing President John Mahama who in a typically democratic fashion conceded defeat.
President Zuma further commended the people of Ghana for conducting yet another democratic and peaceful election. The people of Africa feel highly thrilled to see democratic and peaceful elections taking root on the Continent, concluded President Zuma.
