A former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in the erstwhile Kufuor administration Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, has described some Members of Parliament (MPs) as ‘useless’ saying they are only good at responding to ‘Here! Here’ chorus in the house.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo Pankrono observed that most of the MPs are just representing their constituents for representing sake, and that they do not make any meaningful contributions to discussions on the floor of Parliament.
The legislator was saddened that most of these legislators as a result are not able to properly scrutinize documents presented to Parliament to make informed contributions as expected by the constituents who voted for them.
According to him, they only read when they are corrected and referred to the pages in the documents.
He alleged that most of them are NDC MPs busily jostling for ministerial positions and therefore do not want to speak on issues that will go against the government.
Dr.Akoto-Osei claimed most of the MPs agree and vote on issues they are not privy to and do not even understand.
‘Some of the NDC MPs most of the times don’t even have ideas about the topics being voted, sometimes they are all whipped to vote, whether its good or bad, they just hail it, some time ago, we voted on an issue, and it went against them, it was later that they realised that they had voted against themselves, we are joking in Parliament,’ he disclosed.
He wondered why such non performing MPs continue to be voted for by their constituents.
‘It’s a visionless leadership, we are not serious, am always sad, because we are joking with the country. Sometimes they are just called to vote without briefing them on the issue at stake. Look at Oti Bless’ appointment, Montie 3 case, Karpower which will cost us one billion dollars,’ he explained.
He said most of the signed contracts will be reviewed when NPP comes to power.
