Documents in possession of Today show that Apantse We family are the rightful owners of the Shiashi lands around the Polo Grounds in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the documents, the said lands were handed over to the Apantse We family by government.
However, the documents said the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and some leaders of the now opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) forcefully took the lands.
According to the Kotoka International Amendment Scheme by the Town and Country Planning Department of the Greater Accra Region issued in 2009 with Plan No. TCPD/AMA/N/SEC 4/KIAA/2009/1 and signed by Hon. Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, the then Metro Chief Executive, government had released the said land to the people of Shiashi as their property.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), which was represented as the Kotoka International Airport when that Amendment Scheme was made, is still laying claim to the said land.
GCCAA, in view of this, went ahead and allegedly sold some parcels of the land to some top NDC members.
The situation, Today gathered, has brought some kind of uneasiness within the area.
However, Chief of Shiashi, Nii Tetteh Opremrah, who was unhappy about the development, expressed worry about the situation.
He indicated his intention to fight and protect the land from encroachers.
He consequently, called on the authority to ensure that a fence wall which was constructed by the GCAA to protect the land was demolished.
Nii Tetteh Opremrah also reiterated that the land was returned to the people as it was reserved by the family to construct a lorry park when the family met with Lands Commission during the negotiation of lay out in the area.
According to Nii Tetteh Opremrah, the people of Shiashi have suffered greatly at the hands of encroachers although he said the encroachers were fully aware of a Land Certificate which indicates that the said land belongs to the Apantse–We family.
He therefore, warned encroachers to leave the land and respect the contents of the Kotoka International Amendment Scheme to avoid future bloodbaths.
