The screen saver on a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 mobile phone has led to the arrest of two highway robbers.
The suspects, Mohammed Mamudou, 18, and Abubakari Mohammed 20, are alleged to have robbed passengers on board a mini bus at Nuoryiri, near Banda Nkwanta on the Bole-Bamboi highway in the Northern Region, of their mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money on August 30, 2016.
They were, however, arrested by some residents of Banda Nkwanta when they offered the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phone for sale to a woman in the town.
Manhunt for robbers
The Bole Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr David Dogbatse Azumah, who confirmed the arrest of the two suspects to the Daily Graphic in an interview, said a day after the robbery, the two suspects went to Banda Nkwanta to offer the phone for sale to a woman.
He said upon examination, the woman detected that the photograph at the background of the phone was that of one of the passengers who were robbed on August 30, 2016.
He said she immediately alerted some residents who helped in arresting the two suspects and handed them over to the police.
Mr Azumah said during interrogation, the two suspects allegedly confirmed that they were among the six armed gang that robbed the passengers on board the mini bus on August 30, 2016.
He said the police had launched a manhunt for the remaining four.
