Sarkodie pays tribute to the late singer by remaking his most popular track that shot him to fame, ‘Kokooko’
Entertainers continue to pay tribute to late highlife musician Daasabre Gyamena, who died in July 2016. Ghana’s celebrated killer on the mic Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has released a version of the late Gyamena’s Kokooko track to eulogize the iconic star.

Sarkodie pays tribute to the late singer by remaking the Kokooko track -the song which shot him to fame in 1999. The ace rapper in the song, expressed his condolence to the bereaved family. He talked about how Ghanaians would remember his contribution to highlife music in Ghana.
The late musician has been greatly missed by his numerous fans across the country. Former hiplife artiste Lord Kenya who was very close to Daasebre was one of those greatly shocked as well as affected by his death.
Late Daasebre died on July 29, 2016, after an unknown illness. The renowned highlife artiste passed on at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
To distinguish his name from others with the same name, the ‘Kokooko’ hitmaker added Daasebre to his name. Late Daasebre was born into an Islam family. He became very popular with the ‘Kokooko’ hit which featured Lord Kenya, who is now an Evangelist.
Kokooko was one of the major fusion of hiplife and highlife in Ghana and meant a successful career for both musicians. In 2006, Daasebre was imprisoned in the United Kingdom for possession of drugs and was later acquitted of the offence after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Later on, he released another album, A Friend in Need. The song became a hit on Ghanaian radio charts with the popular songs ‘Seetei’, ‘Wafom’, ‘Ahuofe’.
