Rwanda has launched the world’s first national drone delivery system, which will be used to deliver blood to patients in remote areas of the country.
The project will see unmanned aerial vehicles or drones used to deliver small packages by parachute, bypassing traffic or washed-out roads in the country.
The use of this technology will help to cut waiting times for supplies delivered by road from hours to just minutes. The system was introduced on Friday in Rwanda’s Muhanga district, but is expected to expand to the rest of the country by early 2017
