Four of Rwanda’s genocide memorial sites have been chosen as candidates applying for UNESCO’s world heritage status.
They are Kigali Genocide Memorial site, Ntarama Genocide site in eastern Rwanda, Murambi memorial centre in southern Rwanda and Bisesero Genocide Memorial in western Rwanda.
This week, Rwanda’s National Commission for the Fight against Genocide hosted experts to discuss the UNESCO bid.
Rwanda’s minister of Sports and Culture Julienne Uwacu said UNESCO status will present an opportunity for the world to know the truth about the genocide against Tutsi while reminding nations never to commit it again.
The Rwandan genocide in 1994 resulted in the death of close to 1 million people in the African country. Enditem
