The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to reverse his decision to free the three persons convicted for criminal contempt of the Supreme Court.
President Mahama granted pardon to the Montie 3 following a recommendation by the Council of State.
A radio host with the Accra based Montie FM, Salifu Maase and two panelists, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako-Gunn were found guilty for scandalizing the court and sentenced to four months in prison.
But a month after being in jail, the three can now heave a sigh of freedom following the remission of their sentence.
This move of the President, the NPP said in a statement is never the best for the country’s democracy.
“We are indeed disappointed in the president of the Republic His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for this singular act which appears to be an endorsement of behaviours unacceptable in our society.
“We wish to also demand that the president takes steps to reverse the decision reached as it stands to open our judiciary to attacks that would not benefit this country,” portions of the statement said.

NPP CONDEMNS RELEASE OF MONTIE FM THREE
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has noted the statement signed by the Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah which granted remission of sentence to the three jailed individuals sighted to have scandalized the courts and threatened judges of the Republic of Ghana.
We are indeed disappointed in the president of the Republic His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for this singular act which appears to be an endorsement of behaviours unacceptable in our society.
These are individuals who were jailed legally by the courts to deal with recalcitrant behaviours and a creeping social canker that would devour this nation if not checked.
We wish to state clearly that the NPP abhors disrespect for authority and would not associate with this action taken by the president.
We wish to also demand that the president takes steps to reverse the decision reached as it stands to open our judiciary to attacks that would not benefit this country.
As a result, we call on all Ghanaians to take a cue from this and ensure that they vote out this incompetent administration in order to restore law and order in the Ghanaian society. Thank you.
Signed:
Nana Akomea
Director of Communications.
