Founder and General Overseer of Glorious Word and Power Ministries International, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah has asked critics to desist from speaking ill of the outgoing Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Professor Emmanuel Martey.
He believes the Man of God has done nothing wrong by speaking the truth about some politicians who attempted to bribe him with US$100,000.00.
“For me, Rev Martey has not stepped on any toes and has said nothing wrong. He said the truth as every Reverend would and so speaking ill of him will not be the best,” he said.
Prof Martey told journalists at a press conference on Tuesday, 30 August, that a party he refused to name attempted bribing him with $100,000, a V8, and a mansion at Trasacco Valley.
According to him, the party wanted to buy his silence with the goodies but he rejected the temptation.
Following his claim, a former Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Dr. Emmanuel Osei Akyeampong disclosed: “On July 28, 2013, around 8:15pm, he (Prof Martey) invited me to the office of one of the leading opposition parties, not the party of the government.
“When I got there, he had received the $100,000 and a V8 he claimed to have rejected. And he gave me $50,000. I am speaking on authority that he received the money,” he said.
The claims of the former PRO has been disputed by the current PRO of the church.
Rev Owusu Bempah also defended the Presby Moderator for saying that some smaller churches across the country are hiding behind big churches and going contrary to the word of God.
“I also side with Rev. Martey if he says that smaller churches are only using big churches in the country to do what God hates because not all these churches are from God,” he added.
He therefore urged critics not to drag the name of the Man of God into the mud.
“How can you tag him as NPP? No one has the right to tell pastors not to involve themselves in politics, when these politicians go wrong, we need to discipline them and it is the same thing we will praise them when they do the right thing.
“I believe he has every right to say anything he wants to say as far as this economy is concerned and not that he is doing the bidding of a political party,” he asserted.
