Ghana Black Queens have followed the example of their Nigerian counterparts and embarked on a public demonstration in a bid to force the payment of their outstanding bonuses by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The ladies say they are owed $25,000 each following that stretches back to two years and includes outstanding bonuses from the 2015 All Africa Games, the qualifiers for the Women’s Cup of Nations and their bronze winning feat at the 2017 African Women’s Championships in Cameroon.
Twent y members of the team gathered at the head office of the Ghana Football Association before marching to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to seek audience with the sector minister who has promised to handle the issue.
“On Tuesday we were told that we would be paid our money on Thursday, so that is why we are here. So hopefully we will get out money today.” said Elizabeth Addo who is captain of the Queens.
“We are here because of our money. We were told to come here today for it and the total sum is $25,000. We heard that government has instructed that the monies should be released to us” , Linda Eshun added.
The Queens had earlier in 2015 refused to leave the M-Plazza Hotel after their gold medal winning feat claiming they were owed outstanding bonuses. They were talked out of that hotel protest by President John Dramani Mahama but they issue was not entirely resolved.
