In a poignant ceremony held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Forecourt of the State House, hundreds of mourners gathered to honor the memory of the late Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy, a revered spiritual leader and former chairman of the Church of Pentecost in Ghana. Esteemed figures such as Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former President John Dramani Mahama were among the dignitaries who paid their respects to the influential pastor.
Apostle Dr. Ntumy’s tenure as the fourth chairman of the Church of Pentecost, spanning a decade from 1998 to 2008, was marked by significant growth and expansion of the church’s influence both in Ghana and internationally. His leadership was characterized by resilience and faith, having survived numerous life-threatening challenges, including being held hostage during the First Liberian Civil War, physical assaults, and even poisoning attempts. Despite these adversities, he continued his ministry with unwavering dedication, even after a debilitating paralysis confined him to a wheelchair.
The late Apostle’s demise on December 18, 2023, in Germany, after battling a prolonged illness, has left a void in the hearts of many. His legacy, however, continues to inspire through his contributions to the Pentecostal movement and his unwavering commitment to spreading faith and hope.
The funeral attracted a host of prominent personalities and clergy, including Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the Chief of Staff; Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, founder and leader of Perez Chapel International; Apostle Prof Opoku Onyinah, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana and former Church of Pentecost chairman; Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the current chairman of the Church of Pentecost; and Rev. Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu, President of Trinity Theological Seminary. Their presence underscored the widespread respect and admiration for Apostle Dr. Ntumy’s contributions to religious and social life in Ghana.
The ceremony not only served as a farewell to a cherished spiritual leader but also as a celebration of his impactful life and ministry, reinforcing the unity and strength of the religious community in Ghana.
