The ongoing prison reform dubbed: Project ‘Efiase,’ and the 10-Year Strategic Development Plan of the Ghana Prisons Service, have received another boost with over GH₵24,000 support from CDH Financial Holdings Limited.
The gesture was in fulfillment of a promise made by the Group Chief Executive Officer of CDH, Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee, while addressing a gathering at the unveiling ceremony for completed projects funded by the diversified services of the organisation at the Koforidua Local Prison.
The projects comprised the re-roofing of parts of the inmates’ cells and replacement of a metallic gate to ensure the safety and security of the prison.
The new donation is expected to be channelled into the construction of a wall fence for the Koforidua Prison to beef up security.
In his address, Mr. Adu-Sarkodee called for a reconsideration of the attitude towards prisoners in the country.
“As a group of companies, we see inmates differently; we see them as valuable sources of national wealth instead of touting them as bunch of criminals who do not deserve to mingle with other people in the society,” he emphasised.
He further noted that with the right environment and resources, the prisons would be better positioned as a significant contributor to national growth and development.
Mr. Adu-Sarkodee urged other companies in the country to contribute to the reformation and rehabilitation of prison inmates to make life better for everyone.
The Director-General of Prisons (DGP), Mr. Emmanuel Yao Adzator, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to management of CDH for the support which he described as ‘a sigh of relief’. He assured them that the money will be put to good use.
The DGP appealed to individuals, organisations and corporate institutions to emulate the gesture and adopt a prison in this regard, since the challenges confronting the Prisons Service are enormous.
Among the dignitaries present at the presentation were top executive managers of CDH, including the Group Head of Human Resource, Senya Seyena Susu and the Group Head (Acting) of Corporate Communications, Kwaku Effah Amponsah.
The DGP was accompanied by the Director of Prisons in-charge of Welfare, Josephine Fredua-Agyemang (Mrs), the Director of Prisons in-charge of Technical/ Services, Mr. LKA Ansah, CSP Daniel Abbey and ASP James Annan.
