Mahama ‘Does Not Need to Carry a Gun!’ – Chief of Defence Staff

The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshall Samson Oje, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama does not need a personal gun for his protection.
According to him, it will be unnecessary for the President to purchase a gun since he has enough protection from the state security apparatus.
“Any gun that can fire 200 rounds continuously cannot be concealed and I doubt if my President will carry that.
The President has enough protection and it is our duty to protect him too.
He does not need to carry a gun.”
He made the remarks in response to a publication some weeks ago alleging that the President had purchased a gun for his personal safety.
The CDS made the comment at the Press Centre, where he paid a courtesy call on executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
The President is said to have imported a pistol and subsequently applied for a licence from the Arms and Ammunition Unit of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), in a letter believed to have been written by the Deputy Interior Minister, James Agalga.
Man with gun arrested in Mahama’s church About a year ago, a man believed to be mentally unstable, Charles Antwi, was arrested at the Ringway Assemblies of God Church, where the President worships, for carrying a loaded gun.
He confessed he visited the church to kill the President. He was hurriedly prosecuted and jailed but was later released for mental check-up, after a Human Rights Court ordered his release.
