Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has coined a new phrase for ‘dumsor’, ‘pressor pressor’, which means “on and off” to taunt government for the erratic power situation being experienced across the country.
Wrapping up the Minority’s debate on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s maiden State of the Nation address in parliament on Wednesday, 1 March, the Tamale South legislator said the challenges in the energy sector were far from resolved.
“‘Dumsor’ has become part of some dictionary but Mr Speaker very soon we’ll have ‘pressor pressor’ in Ghana,” he stated.
According to him, the Minority will monitor government to make sure they have no excuse to plunge the country into darkness because the NDC invested more in the sector.
“Mr Speaker, only a few months ago, the Ghanaian people, when there was ‘dumsor’, were told it was [as a result of] incompetence [but] today it is financial and technical difficulties. It can only be in the thinking of the New Patriotic Party. Few weeks and few months ago when there were outages, we could not explain that it was as a result of technical and financial difficulties. Today, they want to hide under that shadow and say that they are competent. We will monitor and evaluate their competence in ensuring energy security for our country,” the lawmaker noted adding: “Mr Speaker, let it be said that no government in the history of Ghana has invested in the energy infrastructure more than the NDC government.”
