President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his deep appreciation to party members, supporters and the electorate who showed him love by voting massively for him to secure a resounding victory in the 2016 election.
He said he appreciated their support and that he and his team were working around the clock to turn things around for the benefit of all.
Addressing a rally to climax his two-day visit to the Ashanti Region at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi, the President told the excited crowd that he was a man of his words and would work to fulfil all the promises he made prior to the 2016 elections.
In the said elections, Ashanti Region gave Nana Akufo-Addo 76.80 per cent of the regional turnout, votes representing 1.5 million of votes from the region.
President Akufo-Addo said the first reason for coming to Kumasi was to show appreciation for the large number of votes they gave him and also explain the government’s policies and programmes to them.
He explained that contrary to misconceptions by some doubting Thomases, the free senior high school (SHS) would commence in earnest in September this year and that financial provisions had been made in the recently approved budget for that.
He added that taxes that put impediments in the way of businesses to thrive had been abolished in the first budget statement of his government.

The President said for the first time in the history of the country, a Zongo Development Fund featured prominently in the budget, a move he explained was to bring development to people living in Zongos
Bawumia
The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, stated that the President had been able, through the first budget statement, reinstated nursing and teacher trainee allowances which were abolished by the Mahama administration.
He assured the crowd that the government would continue to implement policies and programmes that would expand the economy and create opportunities for the private sector to play its leading role in job creation.
