The Central Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwamena Duncan, has accused President Mahama of turning the presidency into a “dumping site where goods which cannot be used any longer are dumped.”
According to him, the president’s inability to sack the outgoing Minister of Youth and Sports and his deputy, Joseph Yammin; after the Black Stars’ disappointing performance at the ongoing Brazil 2014 World Cup was an indication that he was not at the helm of affairs.
He said Wednesday on Peace FM that he could not see the reason behind President Mahama’s decision to move the Sports Minister to the presidency if that was supposed to be a form of punishment.
“The president should be able to say that, we have appointed you to render selfless services to the nation. So if you fail, you should be told that this country cannot have space for you anymore. In my view, the presidency should be a place where you should have the crack of brains, but what has happened is that President Mahama has turned the presidency into a dumping place,” he said.
He added that, “I cannot see how, if it is a form of punishment or whichever, he will rather make Elvis Afriyie Ankrah minister at the presidency. In my view, is he saying that, that is a demotion? That you get demoted and the place for you is for the person to come and perch at the presidency? The interpretation is that the presidency is simply a dumping site where goods which cannot be used any longer are dumped.”
The Black Stars finished a disappointing last in Group G, losing to the USA and Portugal and managing only a draw with Germany.
