President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday thanked God for His sustenance for the nation, rallying the prayers of Ghanaians to ensure the success of government to fulfil its promises.
Extolling the virtues of patience and the benefits of waiting confidently on God, President Akufo-Addo made an allusion to the bible, saying “The Lord is good to those who wait in him, to the soul who seeks Him, it is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord,” as he joined the congregation of the Ridge Church in a thanksgiving Service in Accra.
The President who had already been at the Church earlier after his electoral victory, was this time invited for a thanksgiving by the entire congregation for his elevation to the highest office of the land.
President Akufo-Addo told the congregants he would not cease giving thanks to God “for I know He has brought this wonderful change in my life and in the life of our people”.
He said: “I am very proud and deeply humbled that God has chosen me to lead this great and wonderful people at this critical time in our history.
“I request your continuing prayers and support for me as we embark on this difficult journey…and I hope that journey will be of benefit to the people of Ghana,” he said.
According to President Akufo-Addo, Ghana had built for itself an enviable record worldwide because of the conduct, attitude and posture of its people, saying his wish was to build a new Ghanaian civilisation “founded on a prosperous, fair and just society, where government is honest, where the rule of law works for all and where there is social justice”.
President Akufo-Addo commended his immediate predecessor, former President John Dramani Mahama for supervising a peaceful transition of power, saying “his conduct has been a credit to our nation and we must all give thanks to the Lord for it.”
The Right Reverend Cephas Amenyo, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana who was the guest speaker at the service, prayed God reconcile the country, and to restore and bring progress to the nation.
He advised the citizenry to embrace change, shed the old ways that hindered development to enhance the progress of the nation.
