The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) would perform better in the Volta Region than the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 polls, the Volta Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman has predicted.
John Cudjoe Gyampong speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Monday said, the NDC sees the party with the bright red sun as its symbol as more of a threat to its agenda ‘1 million gap’ than the NPP.
“The PPP is even doing better in Volta Region that NPP, they have done nothing and Paa Kwesi has even worked more than them…that is what we fear not the NPP…,” he said.
The PPP recently adored Brigitte Dzogbenuku who hails from the volta region as a running mate.
The party has since kicked start its campaign in the region in earnest and hopes to win more votes from the region which has since 1992 voted for the NDC.
Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom who was the party’s flagbearer in the 2012 elections garnered 0.46% of valid votes cast in the presidential. The PPP could not also win a seat in the region.
NPP Volta Regional scribe, Joseph Hormenya speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme on Monday said the party has put in place various strategies which would make the party garner more votes to make Nana Addo the President of Ghana.
He swore that the party would attain the party’s agenda 3/30 in the December polls and warned the NDC to be careful as they won’t be the dominant party in the region any longer.
Reacting to this, John Cudjoe Gyampong said the opinion of the NPP regional scribe was just a mirage as his party is fully working to ‘secure the region’ and its votes.
“I am telling them, they won’t get the 30%…you got 12% and you want to triple it, is it scientific….I can assure they won’t get that…they will even lose 5%…maybe they will get 8% because we want to give John Mahama gap 1million and that is achievable because we have registered more Voltarians…,” he said.
Mr Gyampong further said that the NDC rather sees the PPP as an emerging force in the region than the NPP. He claimed the party is also working to counter that threat.
