The Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has decried the attacks and seizure of state properties by alleged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
There have been reported cases of attacks on some state institutions including the passport office, the Ghana Ports and some toll booths across the country by some persons believed to be members of the ruling government.
The party has come out to condemn the attacks and called on the police administration to crack the whip on their members causing these unlawful acts.
But the Minority Leader and MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu has admonished Parliament to intervene since the attacks will undermine the peace and cohesion of the country.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, Haruna Iddrisu said, the issue is of great public concern hence, the need for it to be addressed with the urgency it deserves.
“There are some masqueraders celebrating youth who are taking over public institutions in the name of change…I must admit that the phenomena is not new but we need to find a necessary terminal end. The phenomenal has the potential to undermine national peace and cohesion.”
According to him, the nation has witnessed a credible and transparent polls as well as the most beautiful transfer of power hence the attacks may undermine that success chalked.
“We are celebrating the conduct of credible, peaceful elections and the nation has witnessed one of the best political transfer of power consistent with the outcome of the 2016 election…The attacks bothers on crime and… it is important that law enforcement agencies take ruthless and decisive actions to the growing phenomenal.”
The attacks he stressed is leading to ethnic tension in some areas including Agbogloshie.
“We need to bring a terminal end to it. Law enforcement agencies must identify persons responsible for it and punish them…In order to maintain national peace and harmony, I urge that, this House take a decision on this matter and ask law enforcement agencies to treat it as a crime and punish persons regardless of their party slogans they may be carrying.”
