The leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, will send an envoy from The Vatican for Ghana’s 60th independence celebration.
This was disclosed by Archbishop Jean-Marie Speich, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, when he paid a courtesy call on Wednesday, 22 February 2017.
This, according to Archbishop Jean-Marie Speich, is indicative of the high regard Pope Francis has for Mr Akufo-Addo, Ghana, and its democratic credentials.
He also urged Mr Akufo-Addo to appoint a new ambassador to The Vatican, as there is none at the moment, while congratulating him on his victory in the 2016 elections.
On his part, Mr Akufo-Addo thanked Pope Francis for his message and expressed his deepest respect and appreciation for the immense work he is doing for humanity.
Nana Akufo-Addo also commended the Catholic Church for its invaluable assistance to Ghana in the areas of education, health, and the provision of social services to the citizenry over the years particularly through the Catholic Relief Services.
Mr Akufo-Addo assured Archbishop Speich that his government would further deepen the relations between Ghana and The Vatican to the mutual benefit of its citizens.
