Polls have closed nationwide on the second day of the Special Voting exercise with an assurance from the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) that those who were unable to vote will have a third opportunity on Wednesday, December 7.
The exercise on Sunday took a similar turn to what happened on the first day, Thursday, December 1 as many voters could not find their names on the list.
The Commission has, however, assured the affected personnel of the new opportunity, explaining that they are not to blame for the hiccoughs.
In a raft of tweets on Sunday, the Commission stated among other reasons that “if you submitted the wrong voter ID number to the EC, your name could not be added to the Special Voters lists”.
“The Commission has advised security agencies to deploy affected persons to polling stations close to where they originally registered.”
Many left polling centers disappointed as they could not vote for the second time.
Some described Sunday’s exercise as a waste of time especially after having been told there was an updated lists to be used.
The Commission stated during the exercise that there was no updated list as what is being used on Sunday is the same as that used last Thursday.
Electoral officers at some centers had almost a field day as few officers turned up to vote.
