Polling Station executives and the youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ejisu Constituency have appealed to the President to appoint a physically challenged businessman, Mr. Kwaku Ntim Twumasi, as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.
They said there should be fairness to persons with disability in the party, “who are capable, have been loyal, and could be trusted”.
They indicated that the selection of any other person than Mr. Twumasi, would not go down well with the rank and file of the party, the chiefs and overwhelming majority of the population.
Addressing a press conference in Ejisu, Nana Osei Bonsu, their Spokesperson, said ‘this is the reality and that any contrary representation made to the appointing authority by anybody must be seen as pure deception to create needless confusion and resentment”.
He said they found it disappointing and deeply discomforting “the growing tension that has enveloped the selection of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs)”.
This, he noted, had arisen because of the suspicion that “there is lack of transparency in the way things are being done by party officials”.
He criticized “scheming by some of the party officials to get their favoured candidates appointed, regardless of what the masses think” and said that was inappropriate, completely unacceptable and problematic.
He cautioned the leadership of the NPP against missteps that could potentially disconnect them from the grassroots – fuel apathy and disillusionment.
Nana Osei Bonsu said given the enormous resources controlled by the assemblies’ it was only prudent to go the extra mile to ensure that people with integrity and passion for success, were appointed to transparently and efficiently manage these resources to bring progress.
He reminded the leaders of the party of the “high expectations and optimism of Ghanaians, founded on the character and dynamism of the President”, and said they would not be forgiven if they should fail to aid him to put the right people in the right positions.
