Queenmother of Bobin Asanti Mampong in the Ashanti region, Nana Abena Frempomaa II has attributed the low representation and participation of women in political leadership in Ghana to negativity such as insults.
Nana Abena Frempomaa who was into active politics, and a onetime Constituency Chairperson for the Okaikoi South constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) urged women to rise up to the occasion irrespective of the challenge.
“Most women hate politics because of the insults. Politics can be dirty and so many women are afraid to get into it because they can’t stand insults.
“Most of the women who have gotten into politics are the ones who have been vocal in their schools or families so will face any harsh and rough situations.”
The Queenmother revealed that her political experience has given her an added advantage.
“I feel very proud with my political background because it helps me with my job very well in terms of mobilizing my people to get results. As a Queenmother it gives me some grounds and leverage in influencing my people towards social positive development.
She however admitted she really misses politics.
