A policeman believed to be with the Kraboa Coaltar Police in the Eastern Region has allegedly subjected a 32-year-old woman to severe beatings, claiming she tried to snatch his rifle.
According to the victim, Hannah Ayisibea, a petty trader, the police officer, known as Kofi Boateng, beat her mercilessly with sugarcane and stamped her abdomen, leaving her in severe pain.
Though the case has been reported to the Nsawam Police, the victim alleges that some police personnel are lobbying to have the case withdrawn for out-of-court settlement.
Meanwhile, Corporal Boateng has explained to Class News that he only used minimal force to retrieve his rifle from Hannah who had tried to disarm him.
“We were on a motorbike from an arrest scene and while on our way, the lady stopped the ‘okada’ rider, telling him to drop us and pick her. I asked if she never saw humans on the bike but she began using insulting words and tried to disarm me,” he narrated.
Corporal Boateng alleged that a colleague police officer was the one behind all the allegations with an intent to disgrace him and put him into trouble.
“He is the one who is giving out my contact to the media and urging the lady to report lies. I’m a married man, I cannot beat a woman mercilessly to the point of putting my foot on her abdomen,” he said.
