CRIME scene detectives from the Ashanti Regional Police Command have visited the Independence Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to investigate circumstances leading to the death of a first-year female Petrochemical Engineering student.
The deceased, Miss Adwoa Agyarkwa Anyimadu-Antwi, was allegedly found dead at about 12 noon on Friday, February 24, 2017 in her room at the Independence Hall under an uncanny situation.
Several students at the hostel, Today learnt, forfeited their dinner when they got wind of the rather sad news while many others stood in groups brooding over what might have pushed the first year student to supposedly take her own life.
Information gathered by Today indicated that the deceased, whose body has since been deposited at the KNUST Hospital morgue for autopsy, was suspected to have committed suicide, leaving behind a note.
Public Relations Officer of KNUST, Mr. Kwame Yeboah Junior, who confirmed the incident, said roommates of the deceased had been invited for questioning.
Meanwhile, the KNUST authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances leading to the death of Ms. Adwoa Ayarkwa Anyimadu-Antwi.
He further disclosed that some evidence had been gathered and the school was putting them together to understand the situation.
“Investigations are ongoing. We have found some evidence and are putting together to find out what actually happened. We have handwritten document purported to be written by her. We will do some comparison and see if she really wrote it. We have taken statements from two of her friends. It is an alleged suicide we are investigating but we will go beyond it and find out what really happened,” Mr. Yeboah said.
Furthermore, evidence had also been gathered at the crime scene by police detectives for further probe.
Mr. Yeboah Junior noted that the KNUST Security Unit was also helping the police with investigations.
The late Adwoa Agyarkwa Anyimadu-Antwi, 18, allegedly took her life at the early hours of Friday in her hostel room with a rope.
She is reported to be the daughter of governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Asante Akyem Central constituency Member of Parliament (MP), Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi.
Many people interviewed by this paper could not specifically point to the cause of the supposed suicide while a few others attributed the death to the allegation of exams failure.
One of the students, who pleaded anonymity, said the deceased was said to have failed in two papers –Applied Electricity and Basic Mechanic—and became so dejected that she had failed and that could have led to her taking her life.
However, a note chanced upon by this paper purportedly left behind by the deceased reads: “Sorry mummy and daddy for not being the girl you want me to be.”
There has been various interpretations to the note left by the late Adwoa Agyarkwa Anyimadu-Antwi without anybody being able to explicitly say the real cause of her death.
