Police Investigate Murder of Chinese Miner In Ashanti Region

The police are investigating the murder of a 45-year-old Chinese who was killed at a mine site at Manso Abore in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region at dawn last Thursday.

The remains of the deceased, Huang Zeng Min, has since been cremated at the Old Tafo Cemetery in Kumasi.

Briefing the media, the Manso Nkwanta District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Badu Poku, said his outfit received a distress call about 4.30 a.m. on the murder at Akrofrom, near Abore.

He said when the police reached the scene, the body of the deceased was found lying on the ground, with blood oozing from a cut on the neck.

ASP Poku said the police conveyed the body to the morgue at the Komfo Anoakye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

He said six Ghanaians who had been working with the deceased had all been arrested as suspects and were assisting the police in investigations.

The commander said the case has been transferred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigations.

A cousin of the deceased, Ms Li Linmi, said news about Min’s death came as a surprise to both the bereaved family and the Chinese community in Ghana.

She called for investigations into the matter to ensure justice and fairness.

Ms Linmi announced a bounty of GH¢5,000 for anybody or group who would volunteer information leading to the arrest of the alleged murderers.

Several Chinese nationals have evaded the illegal mining activities in the country, and are causing severe damage to the environment. In some cases, these Chinese nationals have issues with their residential permits.

Government has been accused of failing to deal with the Chinese due to it’s relations with China, which has given the country some financial support in the form of loans in recent times.
