NEW Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Ken Yeboah, has warned criminals operating in the region to have a second thought because he will deal ruthlessly with them.
Speaking in his maiden encounter with the press in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, he stated that his main focus was to reduce to the barest minimum armed and highway robbery and violent crimes on the streets and communities of the region.
In order to achieve this, he disclosed that he will increase mobile patrols both day and night, increase routine snap checks, highway patrols and also support neighbouring watchdog committees.
Improvement of traffic flow in the city would also be paramount, he added.
“I have come to continue the good work of my predecessor to make Asanteman peaceful and conducive for economic development,” he affirmed.
In order to achieve this, the new commander challenged his officers to be disciplined, committed and work hard as ‘there will be no room for laziness and indiscipline.’
DCOP Yeboah also announced the re-launching of a new robust and anti armed robbery team who will leave no stone unturned to sustain the congenial atmosphere in the region.
“For those who engage in acts of hooliganism and other activities which disturb public peace should also be warned as they would be treated as criminals,” the police commander warned.
Warning that crime has no political colour, DCOP Yeboah noted that there will be no countenance for land-guards, macho men intimidating other citizens because of the relation to some political parties, adding that ‘no politician will influence my administration.’
He used the opportunity to thank the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who had earlier assured him that he (Otumfuo) will not meddle in any criminal case, thereby expecting all chiefs in the region to collaborate with him to fight crime irrespective of who was involved.
He also called on the media and the general public to help his command with the necessary information and assistance to help them make Asanteman a peaceful and habitable region for all.
