Questions are being posed about the integrity of the recent examination for serving Chief Inspectors in the Ghana Police Service for entry into the Police College.
Some of the candidates who sat for the examination have wondered why such a high-notched assessment to determine the eligibility or otherwise of applicants would be devoid of the stamp of the Ghana Police Service or any accompanying logo to give deference to the question paper and answer sheet.
Another candidate said “it is the standard for candidates of examinations to take away the question not so however in our case, as these were taken away from us.”
It has been observed that 70% of the examination was the objective type and as observed by some of the candidates, “this is the kind of examination set for Constables seeking promotion to Corporal.”
Another worrying observation by the candidates was that the ruling party is alleged to have influenced the final selection of candidates – the examination being largely a formality.
The party is reported to have sent a long protocol list dimming the chances of persons who do not have godfathers in the ruling political grouping.
Of the over two thousand candidates who wrote the examinations on 12th and 13th November, the exact number to be admitted into the College is unknown.
The selected Chief Inspectors currently awaiting the outcome of the examinations are anxious. The examinations covered topics like Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Law Of Evidence, Criminal Investigations, CI 76, 1992, General Knowledge, English and Report Writing.
The rest are Police Service Instructions and Practice and Police Duties.
Candidates from the Police Hospital wrote additional papers relevant to their medical professions.
There are a few direct entry applicants who would be joining successful Chief Inspectors for the Police College as Cadet Officers. Upon successful completion of the six month course at the College, the Cadet Officers would be commissioned Assistant Superintendents Of Police (ASPs) the first rung in the Officer Class.
