Black Stars AFCON bonus, is not the team’s main focus in this year’s tournament rather, it is on proving themselves again to Ghanaians
Ghana’s Black Stars have agreed to accept any amount as their winning bonus from the Ghana Sports Ministry, at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Gabon. The Black Stars have expressed remorse over the uncultured attitude they exhibited two years ago during the AFCON tournament last year.
Black Stars have lost the massive support they used to enjoy from the people of Ghana, after the playing body boycotted training during the 2014 FIFA World Cup over the delay in the payment of appearance fees.
But ahead of this year’s AFCON, reports have said that the team has agreed to accept any offer made. This was revealed by the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Sanni Daara. Mr. Sanni Daara who spoke to Metro FM, indicated that the playing body of the Black Stars, will take any amount the nation will offer them as winning bonus.

Mr. Daara revealed that striker Asamoah Gyan and his teammates, met the management committee of the Black Stars and told the committee that they – the players – are ready to take whatever amount the nation can pay them as bonus money. The GFA Communication Director says the Black Stars AFCON bonus is not the team’s main focus in this year’s tournament rather, it is on proving themselves again to Ghanaians.
The 2017 African tournament has already begun and Ghana is already warming up for their first game, as they hope to end a 35 year wait for a major trophy. Ghana who finished up as runners up at the last edition of the AFCON, will open group D’s fixture with Uganda on Tuesday, by 4pm local time.
It is still not certain how much the Black Stars will be taking after winning a game. But it is important to note that the team who initially took $10,000 as match winning bonuses, suffered a pay cut under the previous Government. The amount was reduced to $8,000 -a slashed of $2000 from the usual $10000 they’ve been taking since 2006.
