The Black Stars Square in Accra where Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, stood and proclaim the country’s independence, witnessed yet another historic moment Monday when smartly dressed Ghanaians trooped there to mark 60 years of independence from Britain.
Typical of Ghana’s independence day celebration yearly, school children and men and women of the country’s security services performed a march past to salute the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is also the Commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The occasion was attended by Ghana’s former presidents Jerry John Rawlings accompanied by his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama.
Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe and other dignitaries from African countries were also present to witness the anniversary.
