India and Ghana are working together to revamp the Western rail line according to President John Dramani Mahama. The President met with the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Mr. Shri Narendra Modi, during his visit in India, where he participated in the India-Africa Summit Forum.
They also talked about the possibility of developing Ghana’s road infrastructure with Indian investments. The Western Rail line project has been valued to cost $500million. Government considers it key in opening up a link between the Ashanti and Western regions.
It is expected to boost trade especially since oil has been discovered in the Western region.
The two leaders also agreed to step up engagement in sectors like agriculture, IT, skill development, cyber security and maritime security.
President John Mahama also had meetings with officials of the Indian EXIM Bank and the CEOs of a number of Indian businesses.
