Peace Council Criticizes Police For Pampering Delta Force Members

The National Peace Council, in the Ashanti region, has criticised police in the region for the way and manner it is handling the attack on the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator.

George Agyei, was assaulted and physically removed from his office by the New Patriotic Party’s vigilante group, Delta Force that claimed he is an outsider befitting from their campaign sweat.

Commenting on the issue on 3FM, Chairman of the Ashanti regional Peace Council, Professor Seth Opuni Asiama said he is surprised the police couldn’t arrest more people from the scene of the attack.

“I heard two people of the group [Delta Force] have been arrested. That’s not good enough. Because, the video [circulating on social media] shows the faces of everybody that took part in the mishandling of Mr. George Agyei. I cannot understand why only two were arrested,” he said.

Professor Opuni Asiama said that although the Council has not met since the attack, members have agreed to vehemently condemn the inhumane act meted out to Mr. George Agyei.

“Our position is that, this should be condemned in no uncertain terms and not only that; we expect those in authority to ensure that justice prevails.

He said that the Inspector General of Police, Asante Apeatu should show leadership by asking his men to be more proactive in handling sensitive issues.
