Western Regional Minister-designate, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie has asked government to develop the Western Region infrastructure wise.
According to him, the Western Region contributes a lot to the development of the country because it is endowed with most of the natural resources the country can boast of.
“About 65 per cent of the cocoa produced in Ghana is from the Western Region. We mine gold, manganese, and oil as well,” he noted.
Despite the bunch of resources tapped from that part of the country, Dr. Afriyie said the region remains one of the poorest with bad road networks.
He made known how galamsey activities have destroyed water bodies and have left most of their farm lands degraded.
Dr. Afriyie made these revelations when he faced the Appointment Committee of Parliament Tuesday.
He has, therefore, asked the government to give priority to developing the region in order to receive more in terms of resources that would make the country rich.
