A popular man of God is threatening to lead a massive demonstration against chiefs and politicians in the country if nothing is done about illegal mining in Ghana.
According to Evangelist Oduro, these leaders are directive involved in the menace popularly known as galamsey which is ‘raping’ Ghana’s ‘virgin’ water bodies and forest.
The Kumasi-based preacher said the chiefs who are supposed to champion the cause of their people now serve as middlemen for these illegal miners just to enrich themselves.
He said the increase in galamsey operations in the Ashanti and Eastern regions is retarding the development of the towns and villages in those areas.
Evangelist Oduro cited how landowners mostly the chiefs with support from politicians give out lands for such illegal activities at the expense of their people who are wallowing in abject poverty.
The man of God also added that some chiefs and politicians owned the land on which the galamsey operation take place thus would be different to nib the canker in the bud.
The only way Evangelist Oduro believes the situation could be curbed if politicians and traditional rulers stop dabbling in the illegal mining activity.
