EXECUTIVE Director of Ghana Consumer Protection Agency (GCPA), Mr Kofi Kapito has called on Ghanaian consumers to mount pressure on the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Attorney General’s Department in order to have their rights properly protected.
This follows the failure by GCPA to get the Attorney General and government to pass the consumer Protection bill into law..
Mr. Kofi Kapito made the call on Tuesday on March 14, 2017 in an interview on Eezy FM’s ‘30 Days Morning’ show christened: “The Ghana First Campaign” which sorts to celebrate Ghana after sixty years of independence.
According to him, the Agency will capitalize on the celebration of this year’s World Consumers Right day, which was held on Tuesday to sensitize Ghanaians on the importance of having their consumer rights protected.
He explained that although the Agency has tons of laws available to the Attorney General’s office, there have been delays in enforcing these laws in the country.
He lamented that “because Ghanaian consumers do not ask for their rights, authorities have turned death ears to their plight”.
He added that although some key areas such as electricity, water and telephone billings have seen some forms of improvement amid little challenges, they still owe their consumers the opportunity to protect their rights.
