Warning have been issued to visitors and indigenes to avoid wearing party colours at Aboakyer
The chiefs and elders of the Effutu traditional area in the Central Region have issued a stern warning to visitors and indigenes to avoid wearing party colours to this year’s Aboakyer festival.
The ban on party colours is to prevent clashes and unhealthy rivalry as the festival has over the past few years been marred by protracted chieftaincy disputes.
“Our festival is purely a traditional customary event and we will humbly appeal to all those who wear political colours to stay out of it. We are crying for peace and development, not selfish individuals who would want to use the festival to amass wealth and leave the town in an impoverished state,” the Abusuapanin of the Otuano royal family, Neenyi Bondzie Asiedu said at a press briefing at Winneba on Wednesday, 29 March.
He also urged the two rival traditional households to maintain the peace that has existed in the area for the last four years.
He also called on visitors and well-wishers to be meticulous during the celebration to help promote the peace they seek in the traditional area.
The festival will come off on May 6, 2017.
