Innolink limited, one of the companies contracted to print the ballot papers for the Greater Accra and Volta Regions has started defacing the plates used for the printing of the ballot papers following the completion of the process.
The company will later today [Thursday] incinerate the plates, numbering 621, under scrutiny of stakeholders.
The Head of Marketing for Innolink limited, Michael Quartson revealed to Citi News’ Philip Nii Lartey that the incineration will take place at a location behind the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Accra.
According to him, the police, Electoral Commission (EC) officials, political party representatives, officials from Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and National Security will accompany the plates to the site for incineration.
“After destroying them and burning them in their presence, when they are satisfied that everything is burnt, then we issue out a certificate of destruction and they all sign indicating that everything has been burned,” Mr. Quarterson noted.
Innolink had earlier this week been at the centre of allegations of rigging from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) party.
The party alleged that the plates used for printing the ballot papers were sneaked out by an official of Innolink to be given to an unknown person, which they said is unlawful and a breach of the process.
Some NPP members subsequently picketed at the offices of the company in protest.
But Innolink denied conniving with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rig the polls. According to the company, the allegations were false and must be disregarded.
