Ahead of the final Group D clash between Ghana and Egypt on Wednesday, Coach Avram Grant has rested some of the players that have consistently been in his starting line-up in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
Thomas Teye Partey, who was named Man of the Match in Ghana’s last outing, Mubarak Wakaso and Jordan Ayew will start Wednesday’s match from the bench.
Frank Acheampong, who also replaced injured Baba Rahman in the 1-0 wins over Uganda and Mali, will also start from the bench.
Grant has, however, kept faith in his two goalscorers so far at the tournament – Andre Dede Ayew and Asamoah Gyan.
2015 Most Valuable Player and Man of the Match in the opening game at Stade de Port-Gentil, Christian Atsu, as well as John Boye will all start in the clash against the Pharaohs.
Newly signed on Columbus Crew defender Jonathan Mensah returns to the starting line-up. He will pair with Boye with Leicester City’s Daniel Amartey to play in front of them, in midfield.
Emmanuel Agyeman-Badu, who has featured in the last two games as a substitute, starts the game, which kicks off at 7:00pm.
Ghana have already made it to the quarter-final. But Wednesday’s results will determine group winners and runners-up to play Morocco and DR Congo respectively in the quarter-final on Sunday.
