PARLIAMENT of Ghana has approved another batch of 26 deputy ministers nominated by the President, Nana Addo Darkwa Akufo-Addo.
Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Hon. Joe Osei-Owusu, who moved the motion for the adoption of the Tenth and Eleventh Report of the committee said: “the committee recommends the approval of all thirteen members by consensus.”
“The committee has duly considered the nominations of His Excellency the President for Deputy ministerial appointments in line with the 1992 Constitution, and the Standing Orders of the House and recommend that all twenty-six nominees to the House for approval by consensus,” he added.
Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, in her contribution, congratulated all the women who were nominated by the president and was hopeful that they will perform better in their positions.
“I thank the president so much for the nomination of these three hardworking, committed and competent women. I have worked with them on several occasions and I have no doubt in their ability to serve government and the nation as a whole in their best of interest,” she said.
Minority Leader, Hon. Haruna Idrisu, who also contributed to the motion, commended the Deputy Minister for Local government and Rural Development, Hon. Augustine Collins Ntim, whom he said, assured the committee that he would support his sector minister to solve issues of conflict between MPs and MMDCEs.
“Augustine Collins Ntim who was the nominee for the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development spoke of how best he will support his minister to strengthen the process of decentralisation of DCEs and MPs,” he said.
He also commended the president for nominating more women as deputy ministers and encouraged him to appoint more women into his government.
“I am also happy that a number of women have caught the president’s attention to serve as deputy ministers and this is encouraging. I thereby support the motion that this House approves them,” he said.
