The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Daniel Okyem Aboagye popularly called ‘Wofa Atta’ has discounted public notion that Parliament is a money making venture.
A section of Ghanaians have argued that Parliamentarians enrich themselves by putting up mansions and acquiring other properties few months to the House at the expense of their constituents who voted for them.
But speaking with Kwame Adinkra on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo on Thursday, the new entrant to the House explained that there is no money in Parliament as speculated saying the position comes with huge responsibilities.
He remarked that being elected by the constituents is just an honour to serve one’s constituency and the country at large.
The new Legislator said the MPs rather spend lots of monies in building their constituencies.
‘Sometimes even three months salary is spent within few days on the constituents just to thank them. Parliament is not a money making venture as speculated. The position is an honour to serve our people who stood in the scorching sun to vote for us, it is just priceless, MPs need to do other jobs that will earn them extra monies to support their constituencies,’ he stated.
According to him, anybody who has plans of cashing in money from Parliament will be disappointed.
Mr Aboagye indicated that Parliament broadens MPs horizon in diverse ways adding that he has been learning new things from the ‘old guys’ ever since he was sworn in.
