The Community of Learning And Social Spectrum ‘CLASS’ has begun a parenting campaign dubbed ‘Never Asked Never Answered (NANA)’ among professional institutions in Kumasi, to engender better parenting in the country.
The holistic childhood development and educational advocacy group believes the future of several children is left in a limbo as most parents have little idea how to perform their roles effectively.
Speaking to Ultimate News after a training session held for some staff of EIB Network, Director of CLASS Marian Baba Halargi emphasized the need for parents to school themselves in some basic rudiments of parenting in order to guide today’s dynamic children who are exposed to information and other cultures.
She explained, “In our setting, people think that parenting should come naturally. But no. It is something that you actually learn through society, things you have been through, from your parents and also making a conscious effort to research about it.”
“A lot of people are talking about investing into our future, investing in businesses and all. But we believe that this is one of the best investments that we can make into our children. …Not necessarily monetary investments, but with time, with their presence and even if it is in their absence their tactics and the conscious efforts they put in, is very important,” a passionate Marian added.
Mrs Baba Halargi hinged her training on the acronym SMART which stipulated the five nuggets for parenting.
“As a parent you have to be ‘SMART’ and abreast yourself with current and changing times. You have to ‘MANAGE’ your emotions, finances, your life, your home friends and everything about you. The ‘A’ which is for ACTUALIZATION is when you have to know yourself and how you relate to your child. The ‘R’ is for RELIANCE where your children know you will not compromise on some set of principles. The ‘T’ which is for TENACITY is where parents should know when to be firm and unyielding to the provocations of their children,” she explained.
She indicated that the parenting campaign which her outfit CLASS is doing as part of their contribution to society is targeting the working class and all institutions that open their doors to receive the free training.
