Former Black Stars defender, John Paintsil, led a delegation to the office of the East Legon district police commander to ask him for forgiveness after allegedly punching him, it has been reported.
The delegation was to plead with DSP Emmanuel Basintali to forgive the footballer for assaulting him and one of his investigators last Tuesday evening after his wife, Richlove Paintsil, had reported a case of stealing against him, according to a report by the Daily Guide.
His plea came after he had been granted police enquiry bail on Wednesday evening, having spent the previous night in police custody.
He has been charged with “stealing, causing harm, assault and offensive conduct on a police officer” and was expected to appear in court on Thursday.
However, his case was not called because of the strike action by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana, the report said.
This is not the first time the Paintsil has fallen foul of the law.
He was held in police custody in 2013 for allegedly assaulting his wife and beating a neighbour who tried intervene in the matter.
