Over twenty-six thousand election officers would be deployed to play various roles to ensure the smooth conduct of next month’s general election in the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Lawrence Sarpong, the Deputy Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), said they would include 131 returning and deputy returning officers, 186 key trainers – technicians, 5,190 presiding officers, 182 collation officers, and 20,760 polling assistants.
He told journalists in Kumasi that the Commission was given adequate training to them for the credible conduct of the polls.
The technicians and returning officers had already completed their training, he added.
Mr. Sarpong said he was upbeat about the successful conduct of the election across the 5,190 polling centres in the region.
All the vital materials – ballot boxes, screens, seals, validating stamps, electoral forms endorsing and indelible ink were ready.
He indicated that the EC was deepening the engagement with the media, persons with disability, faith-based organizations and other groups to aid everybody to have a better understanding of the electoral rules.
He said they were also collaborating with the security agencies to make sure that peace and security is maintained at the various polling stations on election day.
