The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has acquired three vehicles from the indigenous Automobile company -Kantanka Automobiles, owned by Apostle Kwadwo Sarfo of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana in Kumasi. The Asantehene on Wednesday, April 13, took delivery of the first of three customized four-wheel drive Kantanka vehicles.
The remaining two said to be sold at GHc 150,000 each will be delivered soon to the Asantehene.
The Asantehene took delivery of the vehicle called ‘Kantanka Onantefo’ at a short ceremony. During the ceremony, Otumfuo called for more patronage of local products by Ghanaians. Speaking further on patronage, he advised that Ghana should avoid the importation of cars from outside the country and rather help promote and market the local Kantanka cars.
The Asantehene said that his purchase of the Kantanka vehicles was his own way of showing support to the Ghanaian inventor, as well as creating awareness for the patronage of the products.
Kantanka he said, is a masterpiece that can match up to any brand in the world, which is why Ghanaians should patronize the brand.
At the ceremony, the CEO of the Kantanka Group of companies, Mr Kwadwo Sarfo Jnr, said the company has instituted measures to replace and repair their vehicles per international standards.
The Asantehene has joined the small group of influential figures who in the spirit of patriotism, have purchased vehicles from the local brand.
Former Vice President of the country Kwesi Amissah Arthur who seems to be the first took delivery of two Kantanka vehicles in July 2016. The then Veep purchased the vehicles in fulfillment of a promise he had made to the Kantanka group of companies.
Just like Otumfuo Tutu, Amissah Arthur had urged Ghanaians to purchase the vehicles which he described as very affordable
