Member of Parliament-elect for Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency in the Eastern Region, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has been appointed spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party, NPP Transition Team. He takes over from Mustapha Hamid, the spokesperson of president-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo.
The appointment was made on Monday at a meeting of the transition teams of the outgoing NDC government and the incoming NPP.
The two teams reached a consensus regarding claims by the NPP over the signing of fresh contracts and other deals by the Mahama-led administration in its last days. According to Akufo-Addo’s transition team, the outgoing administration will henceforth, take all such decisions in consultation with the incoming administration.
The representative of Akufo-Addo, on the Transition team, Yaw Osafo Marfo, had earlier expressed worries over the alleged fresh recruitment into the public sector, award of fresh contracts, and procurement of sales and national assets some days after the election results were announced on December 9.
However, in response to the agitations, government pointed out that it still remains the lawfully elected government of the Republic of Ghana until after the hand-over on January 7, 2017. For this reason, it still possesses the authority to exercise all governmental functions.
The Transition Team according to the Presidential Transition Act 2012 (Act 845) has the responsibility of making comprehensive arrangements to regulate the transfer of political power following a Presidential election that calls for a change in government. This they do, by forming various sub-committees that will be responsible for different aspects of the process of the transfer of power.
