Government has unveiled a new technology that will enable citizens to acquire a passport through an online application process, which will solve undue delays and problems caused by middlemen, Foreign Affairs Minister Hanna Tetteh has revealed.
According to her, the new system is also aimed at “reduction to the barest minimum the intervention by third parties” in acquiring passports within the shortest possible time.
At a ceremony in Accra to launch the service on Tuesday, Ms Tetteh expressed hope that the system would address the existing difficulties that have bedeviled passport acquisition in the past.
The service, which forms part of Ghana’s e-government strategy, is expected to play a critical role in the future of passport application and enhance the efficiency of passport processing and delivery in the country.
Ms Tetteh admitted that a lot of the challenges were as a result of middlemen and indicated that the system would improve efficiency in the issuance of Ghanaian passports.
