A staircase on the fifth floor of a building under construction in the Ashongman Estates, Gumbo, has collapsed and killed a construction worker.
ACP Timothy Yosa Bonga, the Accra Regional Police Commander confirmed the incident to Citi News.
ACP Bonga said that when the police first go word of the collapse, a nearby patrol team was notified.
“When the patrol team came, they informed us that a portion of the building here has collapsed so we quickly had to radio other patrol teams and all of us moved in to assist with the situation,” he said.
“We are told there were only 2 people up there trying to work and one managed to escape and the other one was trapped.”
“With the help of the fire service and a rescue team, we have been able to retrieve the body that was trapped in the debris,” ACP Bonga added.
